Nothing beats the glow of sun-kissed skin, especially after a holiday. But often, it comes at the price of skin damage and the risk of cancer. That is why sunless tanning, in the form of spray tans or self-tanner, has become more and more popular over the years. And with Nouvatan, you don’t need to fear orange disasters or the nasty smell of fake tan.

Here at Nouvatan, we are experts in all things spray tanning. It has revolutionised the world of sunless tanning – in less than an hour, you can be a glowing god or goddess, and feel your very best. But how do our Nouvatan therapists perfect the bronze glow? We compiled a list of answers to some of your most burning spray tanning questions.

Will a spray tan protect my skin from UV rays?

Unfortunately not. Although a spray tan produces a natural-looking tan, you need to remember that it’s only an illusion and your skin is no less protected than before. We suggest using makeup with SPF 20 or 30, and ensure to slather on the sun cream if your skin is exposed – even when it’s not sunny!

Is spray tanning safe for my skin?

Yes! The non-toxic chemical found in spray tanning products is called DHA, which causes your skin to go darker when using fake tan. You can read our blog about DHA here. DHA-based sunless tanning has been recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation, American Academy of Dermatology Association, Canadian Dermatology Association and the American Medical Association as a safer alternative to sun-bathing.

Nouvatan uses only skin-loving, natural ingredients and only 100% natural DHA, so you can be rest assured that your skin is getting looked after whilst you get your bronze on!

How do I get the perfect spray tan?

Make sure you exfoliate your skin and moisturise any dry areas. You can read our top tanning tips here.

All our Nouvatan therapists have undergone vigorous training to ensure they are the very best.

How dark will my tan get?

This will depend a lot on the DHA level you choose, and the colour of your skin – everyone’s skin is different, and therefore responds differently to. With Nouvatan products, some people will develop a dark tan, while others just a healthy glow. However, if you are particular about the type of colour you want (either a gentle touch of golden or a strong bronze glow), then speak to your Nouvatan beauty therapist. They will be able to guide you on the best spray tan level for your desired outcome.

How long will my spray tan last?

Depending on your levels of exfoliation and how often you moisturise, your tan should last approximately 7+ days. You can make your tan last longer with products such as our After Tan Oil Free Toning Moisturiser. Oily products will strip your tan so we have developed the perfect moisturiser that will help to prolong your tan.

You can top up your spray tan in-between sessions with our Self-Tanning Mousse – it’s an ideal tanning product to touch up areas that fade faster than the rest of the body after your spray tan session.

What should I wear?

That is totally up to you – whatever you feel comfortable in. Some women wear a thong, some women where nothing at all, and some women where a bikini. In general, we would recommend dark briefs for guys and dark-coloured bikinis for the ladies.

Will I turn orange?

Absolutely not! With Nouvatan, orange spray tans don’t exist. Our unique formula is specifically formulated to counteract orange tones.

I have fair skin. Is spray tanning right for me?

Absolutely! Nouvatan is perfect for our fair-skinned friends. In fact, we have developed spray tanning products, and self-tanning products, which are perfect for lighter skinned tones.

Our tanning formulas have been lovingly perfected to suit all skin tones and types.

If you suffer from sensitive or dry skin, you can still get the sun-kissed look. Try reading our blog post on how to combat it over the winter!

How long does it take?

The whole spray tan usually takes around 20-30 minutes to achieve a warm, golden tan.
